Life Is Like Good Karaoke

We usually don’t necessarily master much in life. We’re not the best at many things, and we often wish we were. And at the same time, that doesn’t mean we need to be the best in order to rock the socks off of any business meeting or social event. When it comes to being great at something, what if commitment, passion, presence, and embodiment were what really mattered?

Yesterday I went to a karaoke bar with friends and realized some things. The people who went up there and tried to be perfect singers to the point that it hindered their embodiment weren’t the crowd-pleasers. The ones I loved the most were those who often sounded terrible, but were flying their freak flag high, grabbing the mic, flipping their hair, putting on weird voices, and dancing like there was no tomorrow. They were entertaining and committed to having fun and living life for what it’s meant to be.

Isn’t everything a bit like this? I often hear the phrase: “it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.” What if we all just committed to what we did, be it a business presentation, a heartfelt conversation with a friend, an instagram live… what if we just went all out, got creative, and showed the world a more honest side of ourselves?

Ever since I started to speak my mind and shake my booty a lil’ more, life has been pretty great. What’s something you’ve been wanting to do that you feel scared to try? Is it going dancing? Having a hard conversation at work? Starting a garden full of wild flowers? I know that whatever it is, you have the courage within you to commit like a good karaoke singer. Just get up there and bust a move. I know you can do it.
